To the north of the state of Veracruz, bordering with Tecocutla to the north, Nautla and Misantla to the east, Atzalan and Tlapacoyan to the south, and the state of Puebla and the city of Papantla to the west.

Irrigated by the María de la Torre, El Quilate, San Pedro and Chapa-Chapa rivers: all tributaries of the Nautla river.

The local ecosystem includes evergreen woodland with species of anata, caoba and huapaque trees. Native fauna: rabbits, armadillos, badgers, birds and reptiles.
